Plausible

A Plausible alternative

Plausible does roughly what we do and does it well: no cookies, no banner, data in the EU, open source. There is no argument about values here. There is a difference in the bill: they count pageviews across the whole account and have no free plan, we count them per site and we do.

Free plan with no time limit. No card. Setup takes a minute.

Why anyone compares these two

Not over privacy, because on that we are on the same side. Usually over what the bill looks like once you have more than one site.

  • 01

There is no free plan, there is a trial

Plausible gives you thirty days without a card, then you pick a plan. The cheapest is 9 dollars a month for 10,000 pageviews and one site. If you run a blog with two thousand pageviews a month, you pay the same as someone with ten thousand.

  • 02

    The bill depends on traffic

You pick a plan by pageview volume, and passing a tier moves the account up. Traffic does not enter our bill at all: one price, whether a site gets a thousand pageviews a month or ten million.

  • 03

The number of sites is part of the plan

One site on Starter, three on Growth, ten on Business. Someone with four small sites pays for a team plan while needing nothing but room for four domain names. We do not limit the number of sites on either plan, the free one included.

  • 04

Some reports live in the top plan

Funnels, revenue attribution and the Stats API arrive with the Business plan. We have funnels and goals on both plans, the free one included, because that is the answer to "is this page working", not an add on for larger accounts.

The differences, row by row

Most rows are a draw and are written as one. The ones worth reading are those where there is no draw.

Which one to choose

This is not a choice between privacy and convenience, because both tools stand on the same side. It is a choice about the shape of your sites.

Choose metuno if

  • you have several sites and most of them are small
  • you want to measure free permanently, not for thirty days
  • you would rather a traffic spike did not raise the bill at all
  • you need funnels and goals without buying the top plan
  • you want to download raw events month by month, on the free plan too

Choose Plausible if

  • you want to run the tool on your own server, under an open licence
  • you have one low traffic site: 9 dollars beats our 49 EUR
  • you need the Stats API or ecommerce revenue attribution
  • history longer than two years matters to you
  • you prefer an older tool with a larger community and a longer list of integrations

Questions that come up most often

What actually makes you different from Plausible?
The shape of the price list, and the free plan. Their price grows with traffic and with the number of sites in the plan; ours is one amount and we do not count traffic at all. For a small site they come out cheaper, at high traffic we do. On privacy we do not differ in anything meaningful and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Can I run you on my own server?
No. That is a real advantage of Plausible and the only answer we have is: if you need it, choose their Community Edition. We run a service, we do not ship software for you to operate.
Will you migrate my Plausible data?
We do not import history. The visitor definitions differ enough that a shared chart would show a step where you switched. Run both side by side for a month and compare directions, not values.
Will your numbers match theirs?
Not on value. Both tools recognise a visitor without cookies, but each does it its own way and with its own validity window, so both of us report an estimate rather than a count of people. Directions and proportions should agree, and those are what can be compared.
What happens when traffic grows on the free plan?
Nothing. The free plan has no pageview limit, so collection never pauses. The only things it does not cover are a second site and history longer than three months.

The free plan covers every site separately and does not expire. One line in your page and the first numbers a few minutes later.
