A Fathom Analytics alternative
Fathom is one of the few tools that does exactly what it promises: it counts traffic, writes nothing to the device and fits on one screen. We have no complaint about their approach to privacy. The difference is in the billing, and with several paid sites it comes out in their favour, which we say plainly below.

Why anyone looks for something else
Usually for one of two reasons: there is no free plan, or one pageview counter covers every site you own.

There is no free plan, there are seven days
Fathom states plainly that they do not offer a free plan. The trial runs seven days, after which the lowest plan is 15 dollars a month. For a site with two thousand pageviews a month that is 180 dollars a year for a counter.

A hundred thousand pageviews for the account, not per site
The lowest plan covers 100,000 pageviews a month across all your sites. One post that reaches the front page of an aggregator eats the budget of the others and moves the account to a higher tier. Our limit is counted per site, so a spike like that touches only that one.

Site packs add to the bill
Fifty sites are included, and each further pack of fifty costs 10 dollars a month. That is a very good deal if you have many. If you have three, you are paying for room for forty seven you will never use.

Events count towards the limit alongside pageviews
In tools that bill the whole account, every custom event moves you closer to the ceiling. With us only pageviews count: events you fire yourself, along with engagement and speed measurements, do not count at all.

Which one to choose
This choice comes down to one multiplication: how many sites you want to pay for and how much traffic they have between them.
Choose metuno if
- you want to measure free permanently rather than for a week
- you have several small sites and want to keep them on the free plan
- you would rather a spike on one site did not raise the bill for the others
- you want data never to leave the European Union, without selecting an option
- you want one paid site and no bill for room for another forty nine
Choose Fathom if
- you have several or a dozen sites you intend to pay for anyway: it will cost less than us
- you prefer one shared pageview counter to a limit counted per site
- you need an API to pull your statistics
- you want a tool with a longer track record and a larger user base
- you measure something other than websites and want it in one account
Questions that come up most often
- Are you cheaper than Fathom?
- It depends on the number of paid sites and nothing else. With one site the free plan is enough for many people, and then we are cheaper by the whole amount. With three paid sites you pay us 60 EUR and them 15 dollars, so we are clearly more expensive. That is arithmetic and we are not going to hide it.
- Why charge per site if it works out more expensive?
- Because we also count the limit per site. A shared counter means one site can exhaust the budget of the others, and we would rather sites on one account knew nothing about each other. With many paid sites that costs money, and the table shows it.
- Will you migrate my Fathom data?
- We do not import history. Visitor definitions differ, so a shared chart would show a step where you switched rather than a change in traffic. Run both side by side for a month and compare directions.
- Do you have an API for statistics?
- No. Every report exports to CSV, and raw events download month by month from the site tile, on both plans. If you need to query statistics programmatically, that is an advantage on their side.
- Do custom events count towards my limit?
- No. Only pageviews count. Events you fire from your own code, along with time on page and load speed measurements, do not count at all, because counting them would triple usage against what the price list promises.

The free plan covers every site separately and does not expire, so comparing costs nothing. One line in your page and the first numbers a few minutes later.
